1. MDS (Multi-Displacement System) Lifter Failure

The most widespread Hemi problem — especially on the 5.7L. The MDS system deactivates 4 cylinders to save fuel, but the special collapsing lifters wear out and fail, causing a loud ticking noise and eventually a complete breakdown. 4. Oil Consumption & Piston Ring Wear

Higher-mileage 5.7L and 6.1L Hemis often develop excessive oil consumption due to worn piston rings. Blue smoke from the exhaust and frequent need to add oil are telltale signs. A full engine rebuild — with new rings, pistons, and bearings — restores performance and eliminates oil burning.

5. Crankshaft Bearing Wear (Rod Knock)
